S - Scrub
- Remove watch, rings, roll sleeves
- 3-5 min surgical scrub
- Under nails → hands → wrists → forearms → elbows
- Keep hands above elbows
NOTE
Betadine (orange) or Chlorhexidine (pink) scrub
H - Hat
- Tuck all hair under cap
- Change if contaminated
A - Antisepsis (Patient Prep)
- Expose surgical site
- Paint from centre outward
- Allow to dry completely
WARNING
Check allergies before antiseptic selection
G - Gown
- Pick up gown from inside
- Arms into sleeves, hands at cuffs
- Wait for circulator to tie back
G - Gloves (Closed Technique)
- Keep hands inside sleeves
- Pick up first glove by cuff
- Roll over hand using sleeve
- Repeat for second glove
CAUTION
If glove touches unsterile surface, reglove immediately
