What Assessors Look For
•Appropriate technique selection (plaster OR sutures)
•Correct materials and setup
•Safe application/insertion
•Patient comfort considered
•Clear aftercare instructions
Key Points to Demonstrate
1Plastering: padding first, plaster over, mould while setting, check NV status
2Suturing: anaesthesia, wound prep, simple interrupted sutures, appropriate tension
3Suture selection: face 5-0 or 6-0, limbs 4-0, scalp staples often easier
4Aftercare: keep dry, elevation, return if increasing pain/swelling/numbness
5Follow-up: fracture clinic for plasters, GP/nurse for suture removal
Tips for Success
- 💡Choose one (plaster OR suture) based on opportunities available
- 💡ED and fracture clinic great for plasters, minor surgery for sutures
- 💡Practice knot tying before real patients
